Our goal is to create a $25million Legacy Endowment Fund that goes into 2 key areas to help @RISK youth:
1. PREVENTION – Early Intervention
We are supporting audited, effective, existing programs in schools and communities that, first and foremost, build self esteem and confidence in kids, and develop @risk kids’ intellectual, vocational, and practical skills and knowledge, so that these kids can feel good about themselves, can re-set the potentially negative trajectories of their existence, and go on to lead productive and fulfilling lives
- this is about building emotionally resilient kids, kids who see, know and experience their own inner brilliance
- this is about giving kids skills and knowledge so that they can take care of themselves, and feel confident in doing so
- these are programs that are both compassionate and challenging, and they are education focused to help @risk youth to make positive life decisions
- these programs produce results in graduating @risk kids to the workplace from high school and from post-secondary education
- this is about preventing kids from experiencing what Joe went through
2. RECOVERY – Late Intervention
We are supporting audited, effective, existing programs that provide the support, education, and re-building necessary to help the kids already on the street to change their lives and create a productive future
- this is about stopping the change in postal code for kids living on the “Granville Streets” to living on the “East Hastings” of their neighbourhoods
- this is about re-building the kids who are quickly losing or may already have lost hope
- these are programs that are compassion-based, community programs that get a roof over kids’ heads, and give them the basic tools to start turning their lives around
- these programs produce results in getting kids off drugs and alcohol, provide mental wellness support, provide vocational training and ultimately place kids in sustainable positions in the workplace and community
- this is about giving love, hope and the chance for recovery to those kids who are already experiencing some of what Joe went through
